After a sabotaged experiment leaves him with super strength and unbreakable skin, Luke Cage becomes a fugitive trying to rebuild his life in modern day Harlem, New York City. But he is soon pulled out of the shadows and must fight a battle for the heart of his city - forcing him to confront a past he had tried to bury.
Luke Cage follows in footsteps of more "mature" offerings from the Marvel stable of characters.
This is gritty, groovy, action hero fare, with a decidedly 70's vibe. Its larger than life stuff, with the imposing, streetwise, Luke Cage, a more or less indestructible tank of a man, wreaking "righteous havoc" on evildoers.
For the most part this is a good series. The characters are well rendered and possess a degree of sophistication and depth, often absent from the superhero genre. They are people with flawed lives and regrets, dark pasts that impact their present actions. Its this quality, more than the action scenes sprinkled throughout this series, that makes it work.
On the downside, I personally, found the moralizing I bit "rich" at times. Comments like, "the system is not your enemy" are pretty hard to swallow, given the inequality perpetrated by government and its representatives, on a daily basis.
That said, even with these limitations, Luke Cage still remains, a very watchable, well acted, scripted and directed series. Seven out of ten from me.
Just started to watch it a couple of hours and couldn't resist to keep watching. it was awesome.
Since the first chapter to the last you will be triggered to emotion, pain, rage, excitement and love. Will not happen what you expect, but you will be expecting what happens.
Marvel and Netflix did great with the screen writing, production, actors, even though some times Luke Cage (Mike Colter), losses his emotions and you can barely see some lots in the character, you can bypass that and enjoy it.
Hope Marvel and Netflix keep up the pace on season two, because would be a waste that happens like Daredevil even though they are connected it can be taken out a lot more of these series. I am expecting season two, I'd wish would be now, but will have to wait.
A must see movie, recommended 100%.
