My 185 series mini has experienced some jamming problems since adding a handguard with an intergral scope rail on it and my Smiths latest reasoning behind I could be wrong but I think the newer Ruger Mini 14 owners manual comes right out and states the shooting the 5.56 Nato ammo is just fine.
