If you practice meditation, eventually all preference and attachment to things on a deeper level of consciousness will disappear, enabling you to feel at one with the universe. When this happens, doubt in the mind will turn into four types of conviction or realization.
The first type of realization is when worldly mind changes and enters a state where it becomes a mirror and directly reflects the true state of the universe. This realization is called “Great Mirror Wisdom.’’
The second type of realization is when, after the mind’s attachment to the world disappears, all attachment to the self also disappears and other people, the self and nature all become one equal entity, a firm realization born not in the head but in the deep recesses of the mind. This is called “Awareness of Equanimity Wisdom.’’
The third type of realization, as the deep level of consciousness changes in this way, the conscious mind gains the wisdom to continually view the outside world as magnificent. This realization is called “Wondrous Intuition Wisdom.’’
The fourth type of realization is when, the conscious mind changes, the workings of the five senses begin to change also. With this realization, the person will do the most necessary thing at any given time, like a housewife who sees a dirty table and decides to clean it immediately while she has time. This realization is called “Accomplishment Wisdom.’’
In this way, if you continue with meditation, even if you may not achieve enlightenment, your doubts will gradually be replaced by understanding. We are all able to come to the realization that we are part of the universe; we were born there to spend a short time in this life, and we will once again return back there. If deep down you can appreciate life and live as long as you can, but also realize the death in not just a waste of life, then you can say there is merit in practicing meditation.
