Yoga isn’t concerning bending and twisting your body or holding your breath. It’s a mechanism and a technology to get you to that state of experience where you see reality just the way it is. Yoga is to expand the boundary of sensation in such a way that you experience the whole universe as a part of yourself. Sometimes we think that the way the asana looks on the photo is the right way to do it. But we forgot that, each pose has several variations. There are ways to deepen the pose and to make it less challenging. A good teacher will offer a few variations of the same asana, and variation that takes into consideration your needs is the one that will actually work in your case.
Pranayama popularly known as yogic breathing involves a conscious manipulation of our breathing pattern. Pranayama has three phases known as puraka, rechaka and kumbhaka. Puraka is controlled inhalation; rechaka is controlled exhalation and kumbhaka is controlled retention of breath. In Meditation, concentration is focused for a long time on a single object like tip of the nose, space between eyebrows, etc. it develops a sense of well being and improve memory and decision making power in the person.
