In the south of France, black Ops mercenary Frank Martin is leading a quiet life, living with his father. He gets illegally hired by 3 mysterious women who force him to be the getaway driver for them robbing a bank. Soon he finds the bank they hit was that of a powerful Russian Kingpin who has his father as hostage. Frank must figure out what is going on, clear his name and save his father.
In the south of France, former special-ops mercenary Frank Martin enters into a game of chess with a femme-fatale and her three sidekicks who are looking for revenge against a sinister Russian kingpin.
Frank Martin, undertaking what he believed would be a routine transportation job on the French Riviera, finds himself dragged into the world of Russian-run prostitution, high-tech bank robbery, and kidnapping (specifically, of his father).
First things first – this is a decent action thriller – lots of well executed action, good fights, stunts and car chases, and a strong story with some unexpected twists and turns. Ray Stevenson is a particular delight. I have to say that I enjoyed it.
But...
OK, let's get one thing straight – Jason Statham is not the world's greatest actor. But what he does have is an immense screen presence, plus the athleticism and physical charisma (and an air of thuggish menace) necessary to impart credibility to fights. And Ed Skeins, who does well, is no Jason Statham. Like several other recent reboots, Refuelled suffers from the fact that the replacement actor is noticeably less commanding in the role than his predecessor. Had there never been any Statham Transporter movies, I would have thought more of this film than I did. I might even be praising Skeins in his first lead role in a feature, because he carries the movie fairly well. But he has big shoes to fill, and he doesn't quite fill them.
Simply put - there was no reason for this movie ever to have been made. Therefore, there's no reason for anyone to ever watch it. That is all.
The plot is non existent, the acting is wooden, the fight scenes are anything but. There's no chase scene, I'm shocked it cost $25 million to make this garbage, most of the budget must have been spent on travel to exotic locations, only to film the inside of warehouses. If the actors got more than guild minimum, they were over paid. They certainly couldn't have spent money in a script because there wasn't one. Maybe the entire budget went to wig rentals. They should have spent it on dental work for the lead.
It’s hard to deny the hedonistic joy in the way Delamarre plays with his various toys, and the goofball stunts—including the yacht-based finale, with a special appearance by a jet ski—are generally worth wandering through the dialogue desert.
