Compounds formed from metal ions and simple nonmetal ions are called binary salts. LiCl is the formula of a typical binary salt. To write the chemical name for it we will start with the names of the two elements in the salt. Type the name of the element Li and then press Enter.
Binary ionic compounds contain a positiv ion (cation) and a negative ion (anion). The cation is a metal in most cases, and is always written first in the formula. The anion is a nonmetal in most cases. . An anion is named by taking the first part of the element name and adding -ide.
A, B. atomic (chemical) symbol, one or two letters of the alphabet representing a monatomic atom or ion. chemical formula, groups of symbols representing.
A, B. lithium fluoride, LiF. lithium chloride, LiCl. lithium bromide, LiBr. lithium iodide, LiI. lithium oxide, Li2O. lithium sulfide, Li2S. lithium nitride, Li3N.
Salts are ionic compounds which, when dissolved in water, break up completely into ions. . Examples of salts include NaCl, NH4F, MgCO3, and Fe2(HPO4)3.
