To answer your question, the .opf is a file that stores epub metadata; apparently calibre needs to convert the PDF first to epub, and then reconvert it to the kindle .mobi format. That's why the end result is so horrifying. Also: If you have access to an android tablet, you could upload the file to Google Play
You do not need any software for that. You can just use your device email service to convert. Plus, I think Kindle email convert service is more successful than the Calibre in converting multi-column Pdf's.
If you see any issues, or if your book doesn't look the way you want it to, we recommend converting your PDF to a Word document and formatting it according to our Simplified Formatting Guide. Sep 4, 2010 Hey guys, I have Malcolm Gladwell's book 'Blink' in PDF and I want to read it on my Kindle 3. I have tried sending it directly as a PDF but the font was too small. I tried converting it to a .mobi using Calibre but some words were missing or garbled does anyone have any suggestions on perhaps another
