Tempest Key, Florida. Arthur Curry aka A.C. is a happy go lucky 20-something dive shop owner who lives on a houseboat next to the coast guard base where his caring adoptive father Lieutenant Tom Curry works. His best friend is Eva, the pretty owner of the local beach bar. It's been exactly 10 years since the tragic unexplained plane crash in which Arthur's mother disappeared without a trace and only young traumatized Arthur was found alive. In the accident, Arthur discovered that he somehow has the ability to breathe underwater which he later turned to good use. However, he's still burdened by survivor's guilt and hopes he'll one day find out what really happened to his mother. After rescuing some dolphins that he suddenly felt the need to rescue from the local Neptune World marine park, Arthur is arrested by the sheriff. The day only gets more unnerving for Arthur when Eva semi-seriously threatens him with eviction and a strange intense man called McCaffery warns him about the challenges that he is about to face since the past is about to come calling. Meanwhile, coast guard Lt. Rachel Torres takes her jet plane to Mercy Reef where a sighting of a man lost at see has been reported. However, a strange beam bursts out of the ocean and downs her plane. Luckily, Arthur arrives to her rescue. Later, secretive Agent Brigman shows up at the base to question her about the incident. In the evening, Arthur meets an incredibly attractive girl called Nadia who shows interest in him and asks him if he wants to go skinny dipping with her. He feels somehow obligated to accept but just as they go in the water and start making out, Arthur is viciously attacked. He is about to learn his true origin and choose whether or not he wants to accept the huge responsibility he has both in the ocean and on the surface. This failed pilot was based on popular comic book of the same name.

I just downloaded the Aquaman pilot from iTunes and I cannot believe that it never got picked up for the CW fall schedule. This show easily beats One Tree Hill, Supernatural, and 7th Heaven. The acting was superb, the plot was amazing, and it got me hooked. By the end I was furious that there were no more episodes to watch, because it is just that compelling. There's so much that could be explored in later episodes... the actual extent of his powers, if he is able to find his mom, is Lt. Torres from Atlantis, and how A.C. is able to save both the world and the sea. I hope that Miles Millar and Al Gough keep pushing for this show to air. Maybe the CW will pick it up next season, or mid season next year if enough of a following develops. I've read nothing but good things about this show; everyone that's seen it seems to love it and I think that should send a message to the network to pick it up.
Wow. I was really impressed by the pilot. After seeing the Smallville episode 'Aqua', and later hearing about a pilot being developed, I was very excited. I'm a pretty big Smallville fan, and I believe that Aquaman has the potential to be a very good series.
Arthur 'AC' Curry (Aquaman) has his mother taken from him at an early age when their light plane crashed over the Bermuda Triangle. Arthur is raised in Tempest Keys in Florida, with more-than-special aquatic abilities - and the curiosity of what really happened to his mother.
The pilot is set in present day and Arthur is a dive shop owner with his friend Eva. In the beginning of the pilot Arthur is actually arrested for supposedly freeing a bunch of dolphins from a theme park. Arthur later attempts to persuade Eva to believe him that the dolphins were some how 'calling' to him.
I don't want to give too much away, but another character - McCaffery (who will try and convince Arthur of his true destiny), soon reveals himself, and Arthur will also encounter a creature from the deep. Another fantastic storyline is the matter of numerous missing persons from the Bermuda Triangle showing up around Mercy Reef.
The pilot is very interesting and I really took a liking to the cast, in addition, the special effects were surprisingly impressive. It is just heartbreaking that Aquaman was not picked up in 2006. I can only hope the network will see the true potential in this series sometime in the future.
