Set two years after the Fourth Great Shinobi War, the world faces a new threat, turning to Naruto Uzumaki and his comrades to extinguish the approaching crisis following the kidnapping of Hannabi Hyuga. The film strongly focuses on the growing relationship between Naruto Uzumaki and Hinata Hyuga (Hannabi's older sister) as the two take on the obstacle ahead with the help of their friends.
Two years after the fourth great ninja war the moon begins to descend towards the earth threatening to destroy everything upon impact, During the commotion Hanabi Hyuga is kidnapped by the alien Toneri, Naruto Uzumaki, Hinata Hyuga, Sai, Sakura Harino and Shikamaru Nara must rescue her but due to the circumstances Hinata Hyuga leaves everyone else to go with Toneri to save Hanabi, Naruto finally realises that he loves her and will do everything to get her back. This film mainly focuses on Naruto and Hinata and the love story they have.
I'll get this out of the way: I never liked any of the Naruto series. It's everything that's wrong with the shounen genre. Gave up on the first TV series after episode 100 when the onslaught of unbearable filler started. Watched a few episodes here and there of Shippuden then decided to read the manga up until the final chapter. This movie feels like what made just for me because it focused on arguably the one only thing that I found interesting about the Naruto universe: the relationship between Naruto and his background filler / friend Hinata. In the middle of all the insane chaos with Orochimaru, Sasuke and all the major wars, this side story with these two characters is something' that was lacking and felt very unexplored. Thankfully, a movie was made that bridges the gap between the final chapter and the epilogue. Movie starts with new scenes that place Hinata as a childhood acquaintance of Naruto, who stands up for her which results in bullies mocking his botched shadow clone technique, getting beat up and having his red scarf ripped apart. Hinata thanks him and he offers her his scarf as a keepsake which triggers her to develop feelings for the kid. Time jumps to the first few episodes of the original Naruto series where Hinata scribbles down Naruto's name and makes it her goal to win him as time and adulthood chimes in. But Hinata's quest to win Naruto's heart gets sidetracked by a menacing villain who kidnaps her baby sister. Let's start with the good: - Top notch animation all around. Character animations and the smoothness of the thankfully short combat scenes. Characters who are not pertinent to the plot are relegated to being cameos and all the characters who matter are the main focus. As much as I hear many complaining about Sasuke being basically a glorified cameo, let's get one thing straight: he has nothing to do with this. This is Naruto and Hinata's story. Sakura makes sense because she is pertinent to this story as she is both Naruto and Hinata's longtime friend and companion. Shikamaru is there because he is assigned by Kakashi and Sai also plays an important role. Cool Sasuke cameo but in the grand scheme of things, he had nothing to do with the plot. Using a doomsday scenario during peacetime, The Last: Naruto the Movie is a slow moving but satisfying romantic dramedy with plenty of action to go around. The first 25 minutes we deal with Hinata's doing her best to knit that scarf as a both a present and a confession. Grown up, a wartime hero, we also see a less crazy, more mature and focused Naruto enjoying life, pestered by groupies and scolded by Sakura who is pro actively helping Hinata while chastising Naruto for not putting two and two together as he is oblivious to Hinata's every attempt to win his heart. Enter the main bad guy who kidnaps Hinata's sister. The main bad guy is somehow connected to the abnormal lunar activities so Kakashi assembles a task force. He sends them on a mission to save Hinata's sister. After a long battle to gain entrance to the Toneri's hideout, the team is frozen by a technique that traps them into a slumber in which they relive their memories over and over. This is one of the most beautiful sequences in the movie. With Naruto starting to connect all the dots as to how Hinata feels about him by inserting himself into her memories from his perspective. That sequence helps Naruto evolve as a character, being more mature and understanding that there was a void in is life. The dream sequence is an interesting metaphysical venue for Naruto to understand both his feelings as well as understand Hinata's feelings towards him. I admit I do not have all the information since I didn't watch enough of Naruto to piece all the history between these two characters, but the movie does a good enough job covering all the logistics of how Naruto and Hinata's history would lead to this particular event. Naruto as a kid, stands up for Hinata and offers her his torn scarf, not understanding at first how just much of an impact it would have on her life. The movie reminds us that in the time frame in which Naruto was ostracized, Hinata was the only person who was genuinely kind to him during his formative years and again the movie clearly shows that he never quite understood why. And Hinata's confession to him while he was engaged in a bloody battle against Pain was a surprise but once again, it's clear that he didn't quite understand. It's only when he looks into Hinata's memories from her perspective, particularly just how much Hinata is also a constant presence in his own memories. The team starts their search in an abandoned village and this also has important character moments in which Naruto himself is more relaxed, but also clumsier. Hinata walks into a small cobweb which prompts Naruto to act more kindly. Moments later, the hero himself hits a bigger spiderweb. This shows that Naruto is more relaxed in her presence but also distracted by his newly understood feelings. It's charming to see this kid who screamed about being a Hokage every single episode in an unfamiliar territory. What our hero sees as Hinata going into the arms of another is actually a clever reveal with flashbacks in which Hinata acts as a Trojan horse, but it also pains her to keep the act to gain Toneri's confidence at the cost of losing Naruto. The final act is bookended by a massive showdown with Naruto and Toneri. But fighting is nothing compared to the last set piece in which Naruto and Hinata return to Earth, effectively ending an important chapter in the hero's life. Be sure to take in the music and the wedding stills during the credits.
The Shinobi World is charming and The Last: Naruto the Movie (2014) is just another evident of that fact. There are so many elements to it such as clan mysteries, interesting characters and types of jutsu, just to name a few. After watching the animated feature, I must confess that I am impressed with the series! Now I understand why there are so many Naruto fans in the world; it is certainly because the world of Naruto is exceedingly sophisticated!
The Last: Naruto the Movie (2014) started with decent yet artistic introduction to the Shinobi World, with adaptation of Greensleeves as the background music which is quite suitable with the mood of the story. Then, it proceeded with flashbacks which I thought the childhood ones are especially sweet and Naruto's growth over the years can be seen in brief. These scenes are great; they are vital to the plot yet refreshing for all audiences, including those who are new to Naruto or have been away from the series for a very long time!
After that, the main plot begins. It was absorbing and the sound effects makes it even better. There are plenty of hilarious moments and plot twists which are unexpected and I like how unpredictable the story is. Even though it is largely a romance film, there are a lot of action and fantasy as well. With abundance of interesting elements particularly the clan mysteries and the creation of Shinobi World, it makes the whole animated feature quite unique and entertaining to watch!
Now, some hardcore or long time Naruto fans may not agree with my review. I have also read that there are some controversies but all those shouldn't hinder me from reviewing The Last: Naruto the Movie (2014) based on its performance. Ultimately, what I am trying to achieve through writing movie reviews is to help all my readers regardless of background to meet a new love or an interesting movie. It is a part of my personal mission in exploring all of animated features ever existed which is a Non-stop Animated Movie Marathon that might take years. If I really don't care, I wouldn't even be writing this. Don't judge a film by its trailer or poster!
Even to someone just getting familiar to Naruto, it is easy to tell that The Last: Naruto the Movie (2014) does not include reasonable ending stories to all of the endearing characters in the Naruto Universe. Most of them have very little screen time and not much is known about the other characters here as this animated feature largely features Ōtsutsuki clan and NaruHina. So, too bad that it is heavily focused on this couple. That itself could be the flaw of this animated feature as it may not satisfy all fans but fortunately, the plot is quite satisfying and it is unusually pleasant!
Personally, I feel The Last: Naruto the Movie (2014) is a good one despite that one flaw because everything else is great. The visuals and animations are beautiful and I quite like Naruto and Hinata's love story too. Most of all, the plot is interesting and I find the Ōtsutsuki clan part most interesting. I hope the next one, Boruto: Naruto the Movie will share with us more about the characters' lives!
By now, you should be able to tell that I am not very familiar with Naruto even though I have known the series for many years as they are a popular anime and manga series. This is my first Naruto movie by the way but I immediately became a fan afterwards along with taking a liking to several of its characters. That might be weird but that only mean one thing; this animated feature is quite good, it is able to capture the hearts of new fans!
As a conclusion, The Last: Naruto the Movie (2014) is amazing. It has the ability to charm us in its own unique ways because Naruto is a great anime/manga! Ending this review, I hope the creators of Naruto would create more of these so we could know what had happened to all the likable characters during the timeskip... Love the all the stories and remarkable settings!
The title signifies the final step in Naruto Uzumaki's character evolution. The child who was never loved is now a man who will find and get Love (in the romantic sense of the word). The plot background of the series begins with Kaguya Otsutsuki and her conflict with her two sons Hagaromo and Hamura. The prologue relates the story of Hagaromo and the conflict between his two sons Ashura and Indra and their spiritual descendants: Madara Uchiha and Hashirama Senju, Sasuke Uchiha and Naruto Uzumaki. The background to THE LAST focuses on Hagaromo's brother Hamura and his blood descendants: Toneri of the Otsutsuki Clan and Hinata of the Hyuuga Clan. The film concentrates on the relationships and conflicts between Hamura's blood descendants and Hagaromo's spiritual descendant Naruto Uzumaki. Two years before the events of this film, Naruto and Sasuke had a final battle (this is depicted in the film's prologue). The two performed one final attack against each other, the powerful backlash destroying Naruto's right forearm (with Sasuke destroying his left forearm in the process). Later, Naruto's lost limb got replaced by an prosthetic arm, wrapped in bandages. After the end of the Fourth Shinobi World War (the climax of the series), Fifth Hokage Tsunade abdicated her position. Kakashi Hatake was chosen to succeed her as the Sixth Hokage. Before the events of this film, Kakashi has ruled Konoha for the last two years. Tsunade can be seen directing the Hokage villagers into air raid shelters during the meteor storm. She is also present in the event occurring during the closing credits. After the war, the redeemed Sasuke decided to leave the village again. He has been exploring the world with his newfound perspective, as well as searching for any hidden threats that may plague humanity in the future. The manga series referred to Naruto's chakra as the color yellow. The anime series portrayed this chakra in blue. This film takes the manga's portrait. During the Fourth Shinobi World War (the climax of the series), Madara Uchiha plucked out Kakashi's Sharingan eye. Naruto, at that time possessing powers given to him by Hogoromo Otsutsuki, was able to restore Kakashi's own long-damaged eye (although the cut scar remained). Sixth Hokage Kakashi Hatake chose these five: Shikamaru Nara because of his leadership abilities, Sai for his reconnaissance abilities (as well as his Ink Technique allowing for transportation), and Sakura Haruno for her medical abilities. Hinata Hyuga was chosen because of her Byakugan's searching power as well as her being targeted by Hanabi's kidnapper Toneri. Therefore, she will lure him out. Since Kakashi has a hunch that Toneri might also be responsible for the moon threat to the Earth, possibly possessing great power to do such a thing, Naruto Uzumaki will be part of the group to deal with him in eventual conflict. Symbolically, Naruto's teammates consist of his closest peers in Konoha (with exception to the absent Sasuke Uchiha and the younger Konohamaru Sarutobi). Shikamaru helped Naruto get over his grief on the death of his mentor Jiraiya (and has pledged to stand by Naruto when he becomes Hokage). Sai is Naruto's teammate and had once intervened when Naruto suffered a consented beating by Karui of Kumogakure. The two female members are the closest women in Naruto's life, a comfort to him in emotional, spiritual, and medicinal needs. 646f9e108c
