27 Jul 2013 I was answering the OP specifically, for that (his) EOS 40D camera. Also, I am reasonably confident that this functionality is common, for all Canon DSLR cameras - as it simply a physical impossibility to allocate the "Exposure Compensation" function to any dial, when the Camera is in Manual Mode.

Agree with above post, the other 'issue' the camera would have is that if it did have exposure compensation in Manual mode, which would the camera adjust, the shutter or aperture (to give the You can still set the ISO to Automatic even in manual mode (at least for 50D, so I assume for 40D as well).
23 Oct 2010 For the first six months of my relationship with my Canon 40D SLR, I did not know a quick way to correct exposure.
