He has information that Al Saleem may be behind terrorist attacks, but lacks any evidence to apprehend him or any of his associates. His plan to implicate Dubai-based Architect, Omar Sadiki, not only fails, his Iranian girlfriend, Aisha, gets abducted, and he must decide whether to surrender himself to her abductors to negotiate her release or leave her to their mercy.Having watched "Body of Lies" last night, I really didn't know what to expect, knowing very little about the film prior to sitting down to watch it.
I found that not only the storyline is a valid, and creditable one, but the performances from all actors, and actresses were equally as powerful.
From great technologies, to special effects, this film has been done very well, and not your run of the mill shoot them up, or Terrorist movie, you actually learn something from this film as it goes deep into the undercover operations which really never hit the media front.
Thumbs up, superb movie, I recommend everyone to watch this film. Over two hours long too, is in my mind, not long enough, but was happy with the ending.I think some people misunderstood what went on in this movie. What I believe the producers were trying to show is this: a wrong, arrogant, mistrustful and power-abusing way to deal with the middle-east, represented by Crowe's character, and a positive, constructive, forthcoming way to try to cooperate with the middle-eastern countries, represented by DiCaprio's character. Two very different approaches, necessarily conflicting with each other. Crowe's way is, regrettably, the realistic way, while DiCaprio's way is the idealistic one, but just because that's the way it is now, doesn't mean that this is the way it always has to be. The real message of the movie - what we need to learn - is that we should be using DiCaprio's way more than Crowe's, because this would yield better results for all involved; save lives, start mutually beneficial dialogs and agreements, and generally improve the quality of life for everyone. Of course, the tragic end of the movie is that Crowe's character and his approach stay in place while DiCaprio's character is essentially ostracized. The world is not yet so civilized that the strongest nations have stopped bullying the weaker ones, although there really is no need. Being forthcoming and willing to cooperate instead of strong-arming everyone into line by force and subterfuge would work so much better, and this is what this movie is saying. It's showing how pathetic, immoral and just plain unnecessary it is for the stronger nations to keep pounding on the smaller ones, which are ending up with less and less to lose, which necessarily means that they become fertile breeding grounds for terrorists. I think this movie does a great job in demonstrating these things, and I hope people will be listening.Body of Lies is a James Bond plot inserted into today's headlines. The film wants to be persuasive in its expertise about modern spycraft, terrorism, the CIA and Middle East politics. But its hero is a lone ranger who operates in three countries, single-handedly creates a fictitious terrorist organization, and survives explosions, gunfights, and brutal torture.Body of Lies is a film adaptation of the 2007 novel by American writer and journalist David Ignatius. Those who have both seen the movie and read the book say that one of the biggest differences between them is that the movie leaves out the Alice and Gretchen characters, makes Roger Ferris (Leonardo DiCaprio) single, and gives him a love interest in the form of a Middle Eastern woman named Aisha (Golshifteh Farahani). For the size of the squad and the length of time required to pull off the operation, Hani (Mark Strong) needed to be sure about where the terrorist would be. The mole could tell him he'd be here or there at a given time, but then five minutes later they would go somewhere else. But with Ferris (Leonardo DiCaprio) as bait, Hani could anticipate and prepare for a perfect takedown. Also, Hani was hoping that using Ferris would lure the big bait, Al Saleem (Alon Aboutboul), out of hiding Washington DC stood in for Amsterdam and Baltimore, and Maryland stood in for Manchester. Yes, there is an excerpt from a new track called "If the World" that plays over the beginning of the end credits (otherwise known as the end titles). It is listed in the song credits in the film, but does not appear on the soundtrack. He dies. No doubt about it. In the car scene where Ferris and Bassam are making a getaway, the terrorists fire a RPG at their car. The American helicopters then kill the terrorists. As they pull Ferris from the wreckage, he frantically screams for Bassam. The Army medics tell Ferris that they can't even remove Bassam from the car as he "is in pieces." In the hospital, the medic mentions that he is pulling bone splinters out of Ferris' skin, but not from Ferris' own bone, thus implying they were Bassam's. As he recouperates in Qatar, Ferris asks Hoffman what he plans to do for Bassam's family.
