The year is 2039. World wars have destroyed everything and territories are run by corporations, the mightiest -- and cruelest -- of which is Tekken. Jin Kazama (John Foo) witnesses the death of his mother Jun (Tomita) by Tekken in the slums known as Anvil. Vowing vengeance, and armed only with his street smarts and raw fighting skills, he enters a dangerous and potentially deadly combat tournament, where he must defeat the world's most elite fighters to become the "King of the Iron Fist."
Jin Kazama witnesses the death of his mother Jun by Tekken in the slums known as Anvil. After finding a Tekken ID he decides to seek out vengeance for his mother's death.
Why such a bad grade? Let me start off by telling you that I am a real fan of the Tekken series. Don't get me wrong, the movie was *ehhh* OK, but it was not Tekken.
The story of the movie does not fit in the time line of Tekken series. There have been 6 tournaments so far & the movie does not adept any of them, but mixes up everything & makes a huge mess out off it. Everything is just misplaced. For example: Jun Kazama (Jins mother) dies in Tekken 2, Miguel Caballero Rojo joins Tekken 6 to avenge his sisters death, Sergei Dragunov entered Tekken 5 to infiltrate Mishima Zaibatsu Lab, Eddy Gordo enters Tekken 3 to find the murderer of his father, etc.
In Tekken, every character has his/her own purpose of entering the tournament. In the movie the actors didn't even know what they were doing there. NONE of the actors fitted the shoes of their characters & I'm not talking about the resemblance. I could care less about the resemblance, cause I know it's damn near impossible to look like a fictional character. For example: Kazuya Mishima is a good person, turned bad after the Devil Gene took over him, he only wanted one thing ever since: kill Heihachi Mishima & Jin Kazama in order to get full power of the Devil Gene, Codename Raven is a spy, who was ordered to infiltrate Mishima Zaibatsu, etc.
If you are interested in the story of Tekken, you don't have to play Tekken games. Just surf to: http://tekken.wikia.com/wiki/Tekken_Wiki & you'll know what Tekken is all about.
So I mainly hate this movie, cause it doesn't bring Tekken, it just brings a random action entertainment flick. It's not as if Tekken storyline is a masterpiece or anything. It's just like going to 5* restaurant, ordering a chicken & getting some KFC on your plate. Not as if KFC is bad, it's just that you're not getting, what you've ordered, thats all. You get the point?
The movie isn't that bad. But then again it does not give you anything more than you would expect. Actually maybe that is also a good thing, because it does give you exactly what you want. That is something you have to decide upon (if it is enough for you or not nearly enough to like it).
I don't think it does make much of a difference if you know the game this is based on or not. The movie itself does not try to tell a complex story. It does set the bar high sometimes and it seems to skip fights and/or fighters, but all in all, the action does deliver a few nice moments. Not enough to make it really good, but still enough to make it watchable. There's better movies out there, but also worse ... It depends on how many movies you want to see and where your bar is with action movies!
By 2039, much of the world has been destroyed by World Wars and civilization is on the brink. What's left are territories that are no longer run by governments, but by corporations, the mightiest of which is Tekken. In order to keep the masses subdued and entertained, Tekken sponsors an annual Iron Fist Tournament in which fighters from across the globe compete to the death for ultimate glory and a lifetime guarantee of wealth and fame. Jin Kazama is a street fighter who enters the tournament to avenge the death of his mother which he blames on Tekken's powerful chairman, Heihachi Mishama. The only way for him to get close enough to Mishama is if he wins the tournament, but he soon discovers that he needs more than just street fighting experiences to get him through the bloodbath. With the help of Lucas, an aging Iron Fist Champion and trainer, Jin makes his way through the levels of the tournament. In doing so, he also begins to uncover hidden bits of his own past, full of his own inner demons, as well as a revelation about the dark underbelly of Tekken that threatens the very existence of humanity. Tekken is based on an arcade game series of the same name by Namco Corp, a Japanese video game developer and publisher. The game series was adapted for the movie by screenwriters Michael Colleary, Alan B McElroy, and Mike Werb. No. Yes, he will carry the Devil Gene. However, it's rather realistic adaptation so there's no transformations. Some characters borrow very strongly from real life people, e.g., Marshall Law is based on Bruce Lee. Lei Wulong is based on Jackie Chan, Raven is based on Wesley Snipes, and Craig Marduk is based on Nathan Jones. a5c7b9f00b
