A retired master car thief must come back to the industry and steal fifty cars with his crew in one night to save his brother's life.
Kip Raines, a young car thief, was contracted to steal 50 specific cars but something went wrong. Now the man who hired him, Raymond Calitri, wants his head. When his brother, Memphis, once a great car thief, who retired a few years ago, learns of this, he comes back to town to see if he can help his brother. The only thing that will appease Calitri is if the order is fulfilled. So Memphis has to assemble his old crew, and he has to do the job in a few days. And a cop who hounded him, upon learning of his return, is keeping an eye on him. And another car thief, whom he competed with before wants to get the Calitri job, and is telling Memphis to back off, but he won't.
I actually never wanted to see this movie because I thought it would have been a rip off to the Fast and the Furious movies. Then I realized, this movie came out first. Also I read the cast list and I realized that I should see this.
This is a remake off the 1974 original. The story is about Memphis Raines who has to steal fifty cars in three days in order to spare the life of his younger brother, Kip. Meanwhile, he has to avoid the pesky detectives who are bent on catching him.
The acting is pretty good. Nic Cage is an underrated actor and I don't see why so many people give him grief. Angelina Jolie of course is pretty smoking hot. Duvall is a great actor and will always be.
Overall, this movie is full of adrenaline and speed though not as much as the Fast and the Furious. I though it was better than anticipated. I rate this film 9/10.
This is not Oscar Material, but I really like CAR movies. I thought it was a lot of fun. The plot was hysterically full of holes, but who cares? The movie was fun to watch. Stop your brain for 2 hours and enjoy. If you want more, watch Con-Air or The Rock or any other Bruckheimer Movie. They all follow this formula. They are all great summer movies. Stop with the whole, "The movie was not plausible" smack. Just check out the fast car chases and the cheesey dialogue and laugh your like a hurricane.....
There were moments when I thought Gone in 60 Seconds might be a passably entertaining movie. I figure those moments, strung end-to-end, would total 30 or 40 seconds.
Nearly five years after the first release of this movie on DVD, Buena Vista Home Ent. released an Unrated Director's Cut that features not only several new scenes - altogether 45 - but also alternate angles of existing shots. a5c7b9f00b
