University students Kohta and Yuka (Kohta's cousin) save a Diclonius girl called "Lucy" when they see her naked in a beach. In fact "Lucy" is a serial killer who is being searched by the government but they are not aware of who "Lucy" really is because her personality is split.
A teenager girl escapes from a laboratory with the power to dismember people with her multiple invisible arms. On her way out, she gets shot and becomes a double-personality person, half-sweet, half-murderer. On her way, she meets people who have suffered the biggest horrors possible. Together, they will face the evil organization who uses other girls to track the original one.
I have to say, this is by far one of the better anime I've watched over the years. It's got action, drama, and a great story.
This anime has stuck with me for the better part of three years now, and is still among my favourites, the only reason I'm rating it this so low is because it could have done so much more by simply following the manga, it, along with Code Geass, being the only form of entertainment that has actually jerked a tear filled response from me
Never the less, it is still very much worth the watch, and I highly recommend it, along with its manga counterpart, if you want more than what the anime brings to the table, as they differ significantly after the 11th or 12th episode, or in the later part of volume 6 in the manga.
So this was the 2. anime series I have ever seen and I'm truly glad that I watched it.The whole story and the past of every character was told very well that made me pay respect to anime for a life. The first 3-4 episodes didn't impress me too much and I'm happy that I kept going. I very liked that you didn't know much about what happened to the characters before we see them the very first time and as the series continues you get to know more about each character's past by these flash backs of memories. The only little problem I had is that sometimes the nudity was unnecessary but it is not a big deal. Also the first time I felt like the theme song was a bit overused but then I realized that some scened would've been much worse whit out it.
Overall Elfen Lied is a truly amazing but depressing story whit some beautiful artistic elements. And have some tissue ready! 9/10
