God help us if the Chinese really do invade. How many of you knew the movie originally featured China as the enemy that took us over? I guess that would be a little too close to home. How stupid are we to elect politicians who create policy that encourages moving manufacturing to China when they are the sworn enemies of the west? We will buy the rope from the communists that they will hang us with. Sound crazy? I'm not the one who said it, it was Lenin. First off, I thought this was a very good movie. I did see the original version when it first came out and a few times since. I loved the original. I think the remake was well done. This was NOT like the remake of 'Footloose' in which there seemed absolutely no point in remaking the movie. This remake gave us the same basic story, but with some different characters, a different country invading, and some very good acting. I figured Thor, Wonder Woman, and Peta (the actors not the characters) would do a great job but I was pleasantly surprised (shocked even) at what a great job of acting Josh Peck did. Honestly, I don't understand the bad reviews this movie seems to be getting. 1: The story line was solid. 2: The acting was excellent. 3: The special effects were very good. 4: The pace was good. The movie never dragged. A solid movie. If you've not seen it, then I suggest you give a chance. In his debut the director, Dan Bradley, a stunt coordinator with a long list of credits, handles the low-fi action well, which helps divert attention from the bargain-bin special effects, bad acting and politics. There's no indication that this is anything but set in modern day as of the time of filming/release. No. In the dissolution of the Soviet Union, from 1989 to '91, Russia ceased to be part of it; an event which over time drastically reduced any hostile motives Russia had with the Western bloc, leaving mainly only North Korea and Cuba, as well as (the far more powerful but far less extreme) mainland China, as the remnants of the Cold War and overall arms race (or ideological mockery) between Communists and Westerners. As such, for this story, the Soviet Union has been replaced by North Korea. It was speculated that an ex-Spetsnaz officer (the Spetsnaz being Russian special forces) would be in the film as a trained mercenary, though; yet little was known about him or how much we would see of him in the film. First off, I thought this was a very good movie.

I did see the original version when it first came out and a few times since. I loved the original.

I think the remake was well done. This was NOT like the remake of 'Footloose' in which there seemed absolutely no point in remaking the movie. This remake gave us the same basic story, but with some different characters, a different country invading, and some very good acting.
