Two years after terrorists seized the nuclear facility on Shadow Moses Island, Revolver Ocelot, the sole survivor of the FOX-HOUND squad that led the terrorists, sells the plans for Metal Gear REX on the black market. Solid Snake and Otacon are now part of "Philanthropy," an independent organization dedicated to eliminating the Metal Gear variants that appear throughout the world. Acting on a semi-anonymous tip, Snake infiltrates an oil tanker sailing through New York Harbor, which is said to be carrying Metal Gear RAY, a new model developed by the US Marine Corps. However, the mission isn't as simple as Otacon and Snake predicted, and the tanker is eventually sunk by explosives. Two years later, terrorists seize the "Big Shell," an environmental cleanup facility placed over the wreckage of the tanker, and take US President James Johnson hostage. FOX-HOUND member Raiden must infiltrate the Big Shell, rescue the president, and disarm the terrorists. As he carries out the mission, Raiden learns the dark secrets behind the tanker incident, Johnson's predecessor George Sears, his own past, and a mysterious organization known as "The Patriots."
Two years after the death of Solid Snake, a rookie FOX-HOUND agent, on his first mission, infiltrates an offshore decontamination facility to rescue the President.
This is not a videogame, nor is it a movie. Hideo Kojima (the George Lucas of videogames) has done something unimaginable. He has blended two art forms together (yes, thats right, videogames are an art form).
Those who expect to find nothing but action in this game will be majorly disappointed. This game has more story than three Hollywood films put together. Hideo Kojima's directing style also puts just about most of Hollywood action movies to shame.

Being a major fan of Metal Gear Solid on the Playstation, and having waited anxiously for the release of Metal Gear Solid 2, I must admit that I was a little disappointed after beating the game the first time. I think I speak for a lot of people when I say "It wasn't what I expected". I was expecting the same thing everyone who saw the 10 minute E3 trailer was expecting. SOLID SNAKE. Now that could be reason enough to hate this game, and for most people it is. But not for me. Like most of you I hated Raiden, but after replaying the game I understood his purpose. The central theme in MGS2:SoL is passing on information to future generations. Solid Snake passes on his knowledge and more importantly his wisdom to Raiden. I'm positive that most people didn't even understand the story. There are so many layers to it. Worst of all most people find it preachy. God forbid there be any message in any film or videogame these days cause were all such responsible human beings. This is one videogame I would want my kids to play some day.
Although, I found that the Codec conversations between Raiden and Rose were the games biggest flaw. They were usually long, annoying and misplaced.
If you play this game thinking its a videogame, you will be disappointed. If you play this game thinking its a movie in which you get to play it will be awesome. 9/10

After a terrible Tanker accident, the world's greatest spy is considered dead. So a new spy is brought in to stop more terrorists from unleashing a terrible plot.
The game has loads of fun, and the graphics are brilliant. I didn't like Raiden very well, but I got used to him.

Deselect all weapons and press the weapon button to pick up Fatman and then drop him once the bomb is fully exposed. Yes, this is true. After you defeat Solidus and when Raiden is talking with Rose, Vamp can be seen in the background near a yellow taxi. You may need to use the R1 zoom function to see him. She had a small cameo appearance. You don't actually see Mei Ling. You only hear her voice. If you save the game 13 times in the tanker chapter, Mei Ling will interrupt Otacon while he's on the codec. Shalashaska (Ocelot's nickname) is a it's a mistransliteration of Sharashka - Russian term for "prison for scientist" of Stalin's era Richard Ames was an agent for the Patriots. The Patriots knew that President Johnson would betray them and join forces with the terrorists, so they sent Ames in to keep tabs on him . No. During one point in the Tanker section, Snake sees what appears to be Vulcan Raven's shadow, but it ends up being a Vulcan Raven action figure.
The Vulcan Raven action figure also can be seen as Raiden in the flooded out section of core 2. Dead Cell is a former special forces unit that serves as an analogue to the renegade FOXHOUND team in the original Metal Gear Solid. The team is a former counter-terrorist unit founded by President Sears, whose purpose was to launch surprise attacks against friendly unit to prepare for actual combat. Six months prior to the events of the Plant chapter, the unit goes rogue and only three members survive. Yes. A conversation between Snake and Otacon, revealing the contents of the disk that Snake had obtained. The Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty Original Soundtrack is the official soundtrack to Konami's 2001 stealth game Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty.
Most of the original music was composed and arranged by Harry Gregson-Williams, with the exceptions of "Metal Gear Solid Main Theme", composed by TAPPY, "Can't Say Goodbye to Yesterday", written by Rika Muranaka and performed by the Felix Farrar Orchestra and (in the full version) Carla White, and "Fortune" and "Who Am I Really?", composed by Norihiko Hibino. "Opening Infiltration", "RAY Escapes", "The World Needs Only One Big Boss!" and "Arsenal Is Going to Take Off!" were co-composed by Gregson-Williams and Hibino. The CD was released on November 29, 2001 the same day as the Japanese release of the game.

Every other version worldwide seems to have the censorship.GW is a supercomputer (created by Emma Emmerich) that was being housed in Arsenal Gear. The Patriots used GW to manage the flow of digital information. This way, the Patriots could store, delete and alter any information they want to control history and remain as the true powerholders of the United States. The reason why the Colonel and Rose act strange is because of the virus that Snake and Raiden used to try to destroy GW. The Colonel was really just an AI that started to malfunction when the virus took effect. While there really is a Colonel Roy Campbell (as seen in Metal Gear Solid), he had nothing to do with the Big Shell incident. Rose, however, was an actual person. But when Raiden was infiltrating Arsenal, she admitted to being a spy for the Patriots. The Patriots then decided that Rose can no longer be trusted and took her hostage and then replaced her with an AI. The S3 Plan (which stands for Selection for Societal Sanity and not Solid Snake Simulation) is a system for controlling human will and consciousness. During the final Codec conversation, JFK explains it by saying, "S3 is not you, a soldier trained into the image of Solid Snake. It is -- a method, a protocol, that created a circumstance that made you what you are." In simple terms, the Patriots used the Shadow Moses incident as a paradigm for the S3 plan (that's why the events in the Big Shell incident shadow the ones from the Shadow Moses incident) and used the Big Shell incident as a test for the S3 plan. The test was to see if the Patriots could control human will, behavior, and thought. In the end, the S3 plan was a success because the Patriots were able to manipulate Raiden. Vamp - is a member of Dead Cell from Romania who forms part of the Sons of Liberty terrorist group. He has a taste for human blood, and is thought to be immortal, having sustained injuries that would usually kill a normal human being. He turns out having complex nanomachines made by Dr. Naomi Hunter that heal wounds at an extremely fast rate. Raiden encounters Vamp multiple times during the course of his mission, and Vamp fatally wounds Emma Emmerich. Despite his vampirtic attributes, his name as is actually derived from his bisexuality. His lover was Scott Dolph, the father of his commander Fortune.
Fatman - (who named himself after the Fat Man bomb dropped on Nagasaki) is a member of Dead Cell specializing in explosives and the first boss character in the Plant chapter (not counting Raiden's encounter with Fortune). He is an overweight bald man in a bomb blast suit who moves around with his roller skates and is armed with a Glock 18 in addition to his bombs. Ocelot reveals that Fatman was actually an agent of The Patriots. Stillman's presence in the facility was arranged to motivate Fatman into participating.
Fortune - (whose real name is Helena Dolph Jackson) is the leading member of Dead Cell and a member of the "Sons of Liberty". She is an African-American woman with blond hair and wears a dark leotard and trenchcoat, while her weapon is a railgun. Her codename comes from her nearly-miraculous ability to have bullets pass by her without hitting her. Her true motive is to seek revenge against Solid Snake, whom she believes was responsible for her father's death. Near the end of the game, she learns it was actually Ocelot who killed her father, but is shot in the chest before she can attack: Ocelot reveals that her immunity to bullets was simply the result of an electromagnetic force field surrounding her body, also later revealing that her heart is on the right side of her body, not the left like most other people. Before dying, she manages to deflect RAY's missiles, protecting Raiden, Snake and Solidus, causing Snake to remark "she is Lady Luck" and proving that perhaps she does have an underlying supernatural ability. The Patriots, also known as the La-li-lu-le-lo are a secret cabal, revealed in Metal Gear Solid 2, that control the United States of America. The group is initially revealed as an inner circle consisting of twelve people known as the The Wisemen's Committee. After Snake becomes a public hero in the aftermath of the Shadow Moses incident, the Patriots begin a smear campaign against him and frame him for blowing up an oil tanker in New York, and, according to Emma Emmerich, were responsible for the Y2K problem. They initiate the construction of Arsenal Gear, and its A.I. GW, in order to censor the flow of digital information, and manipulate the events of the story through their trusted agent Revolver Ocelot. At the game's end, Snake acquires a disk containing the identities of the Wisemen's Committee and in the post-credits ending, Otacon examines the disk, stating that one of their number was a major supporter of Philanthropy, and that all twelve had been dead for about "a hundred years." It is revealed in MGS3 that the names on the list were actually the names of Philosophers' Wisemen's Committee, the original Patriots
In Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots it is revealed that the Patriots were the characters in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, Naked Snake/Big Boss, Major Zero, Para-Medic who was Dr. Clark who turned Gray Fox into the Ninja, Sigint who later became the DARPA chief Donald Anderson of MGS, EVA, and Ocelot. They tried to create a world that was envisioned by The Boss, Big Boss's mentor. But Zero became corrupted by power and later distrusted humanity so created four AIs, GW (George Washington), TJ (Thomas Jefferson), TR (Teddy Roosevelt), and AL (Abraham Lincoln), and a core AI JD (John Doe).
