I was in Best Buy today getting my hands on a D7000. I'm currently in the Canon camp. I couldn't figure out how to manually select an individual focus. I often find a need to do this and it must be easier than what I was making today. How is it done and is the technique essentially the same for the D700?

23 Jul 2012 by pressing the button in the middle of the focus selector and moving it from auto to any of the other modes (I am currently using 3D) you get control over your focus point again. It turns out that this little button (with the back dial) controls the focus mode for the D7000.
I can't seem to figure out how to select a focus point. I've read my manual and "Field Guide" and it says to use the multi-selector to choose your AF point. But when I do this, nothing happens, no point is even highlighted. This is crucial for me and I guess everyone else. Camera is in Auto Focus mode, AF-S.
27 Feb 2011 Hi guys;) I just bought my D7000, before it, I used D5000. I don't want auto focus (the camera decide where to focus), I want to set my camera to single Focus point (the way I can see a dot and can move to any where in Front and rear dials both control different options, adjust until you get what you want.
