The exploits of a group of men and women who serve the City of New York as police officers, firemen, and paramedics in the fictional 55th Precinct.
It seems that another good police drama disappears like the dinosaurs. It started with shows like Hill Street Blues, Homicide: Life on the Street, NYPD BLUE and now THIRD WATCH. I guess actors need to move on some time but I am still left disappointed with the loss of these excellent shows. Third Watch did something that no other "cop show" managed to do. In the aftermath of 9-11 this show captivated audiences with its portrayal of emergency services workers trying to cope after the greatest of unbelievable tragedies. Its further episodes brought light to real issues affecting emergency workers, whether it was Sullivan's alcoholism or Doc Parker's post-traumatic stress. It was fiction with purpose. What are the viewers left with now? Blind Justice (which was thankfully canceled) and other garbage "quirkie" cop shows. Didn't we learn after "Cop rock"? that quirk did not work in police fiction. It was simply too serious a subject. Police drama sometimes brings more reality to viewing then reality TV. NBC should consider an appropriate spin-off or replacement. Maybe shows like "The Projects" about New York Housing Cops or "NY Transit" about subway cops, or even take another try at the elite ESU (Emergency Services Unit)-It was tried once before in the 80's. New York seems to be a venue for so many good story lines. They could even spin-off a series following Ty as he becomes the boss of his own precinct? Don't just leave the viewers hanging...step-up and bring back good police drama to balance out the reality TV B.S. Thanks for your attention.
Watching THIRD WATCH is like reading a good book I just can't put down. I'm not one to "get hooked" on programs, like soaps, but THIRD WATCH got me good! I only wish I'd seen the original airings. I don't want to miss a single episode of this action packed series. The viewer is drawn in to the actors' characters causes and effects. The lives of the characters are deeply affected by their jobs as fire fighters, police person, or paramedics. The cast are excellent actors and perfect choices for their characters. It's difficult to pick a favorite character as all the interactions and relationships are just perfect. I can't say enough good about this drama, except it's terrible it was canceled after the 6th season. However, give everyone involved with the program credit for putting an ending to the series. Knowing the ending doesn't made a difference with wanting to watch the previous episodes.
