An elite team of Navy SEALs embark on a covert mission to recover a kidnapped CIA agent.
An unprecedented blend of real-life heroism and original filmmaking, Act of Valor stars a group of active-duty Navy SEALs in a powerful story of contemporary global anti-terrorism. Inspired by true events, the film combines stunning combat sequences, up-to-the minute battlefield technology and heart-pumping emotion for the ultimate action adventure. Act of Valor takes audiences deep into the secretive world of the most elite, highly trained group of warriors in the modern world. When the rescue of a kidnapped CIA operative leads to the discovery of a deadly terrorist plot against the U.S., a team of SEALs is dispatched on a worldwide manhunt. As the valiant men of Bandito Platoon race to stop a coordinated attack that could kill and wound thousands of American civilians, they must balance their commitment to country, team and their families back home. Each time they accomplish their mission, a new piece of intelligence reveals another shocking twist to the deadly terror plot, which stretches from Chechnya to the Philippines and from Ukraine to Somalia. The widening operation sends the SEALs across the globe as they track the terrorist ring to the U.S.-Mexico border, where they engage in an epic firefight with an outcome that has potentially unimaginable consequences for the future of America.
As a real student of military history and a veteran of the US Army I will say that this movie touched my heart and fed my desire for realism in military movies. This is NOT a war movie in as much as it is a story about brotherhood and the bonds that are forged between men in the cauldron of fire that is combat! The combat scenes are realistic, the technology is real, and the story is compelling! This movie shows that the men and woman of the US Military are real flesh and blood people with lives and families who are STILL laying their lives on the line and are STILL dying over ten years after 9/11. It has gone into my TOP movies case of my DVD collection!
Let me start by saying that this movie has actual Navy Seals cast, therefore the acting can be a little stiff. That's to be expected. I liken the inexperience to what I witnessed in the movie 'Courageous', which I liked. Also, There are enough real actors to pull of a solid movie. The premise of this feature was well executed. While watching an Adobe conference with District 9's director/actor and others, I learned that 'Act of Valor' was shot mostly with Canon 7D's and Canon 5d Mark II's. The cinematography was absolutely outstanding. One could remove all dialog and still enjoy this movie. It is also hardcore. You must be a fan of the real-world application of war to movies like this to be okay or else the blood-splattering will be too much What else do you think will happen if a M14 carbine put one right one a bad guy's noggin. Splat!! It wasn't overdone, just realistically acceptable. Now, that you've been briefed, here'e how I viewed it.
The attempt at connecting the American warriors with their American families was flimsy and stagnant. The Navy Seals could only managing to smile as they recited their lines. That seemed to be the only emotion aside from the deep in thought drop of the head. Again, that was to be expected but I couldn't help waiting for the guys to cut loose and be free with their personalities. When the bullets start to fly, their true personalities, facial expressions, and body language come to life and no we are all captivated in what could only be be described as a 'beautifully chaotic massacre'. I could never make myself believe that just because I'm Filipino or Mexican(no disrespect intended here) with an AK-47 and an attitude, I could best America's finest in a firefight. I mean, we're raised playing cowboy and Indian games at age 4. Most kids perform their first fatality in 'Mortal Kombat' by age 12. The Navy Seals do work and it is glorious and yet taken very seriously by the entire audience. Having been in real -life situations as shown in this movie adds a perfect sense of realism that helps to nullify the static acting that occurs when the safety is on.
As in the 'Call of Duty: Black Ops' game but far-better executed than in 'Doom' movie, the first-person shooter POV is smooth and gives a unique look down the sights. The movie breaks down into three main action-packed acts, much like the 'Call of Duty: Black Ops' game format plays out.It was a very solid structure to go with; just go from mission to the next and to the next until you kill them all. All of the real men will feel their testosterone levels spike and their egos take a gut check. I don't think anyone will willing sign-up to try and be a Navy Seal after seeing what it really could look like. This is not a game and real people die.
The conclusion of the movie became melodramatic, yet it doesn't wash out all of the energy that had built up on our eyes. The final coffin scene managed to add a last minute gravity increase to pull at your heart-strings as the reality of death set in. This moment generated true, patriotic emotion and many will cry. This is good but what's better is the opportunity for the audience to see the names of and honor those Navy Seals killed after 9/11 fighting terrorism. This is truly sobering. I haven't heard quiet like I did since the end of 'Passion of the Christ', and no one even moved after that movie for fifteen minutes. It's really something incredible to see. Show people the 'real' without compromise and if they can accept the truth - that violence IS necessary to keep peace, rescue, and survive against the enemy - a new respect for those who put their lives on the line a formed. It is definitely worth watching more than once and there are several reasons to enjoy this movie. If you want great acting, watch 'Tears of the Sun'. If you want to know what real combat looks like, skip 'Predator' and 'Expendables' to watch real warriors work. It is a sobering difference but a well received change in today's politically correct and powder-puffed America.
P.S. There are a few good one-liners in this feature that are simply classic. Don't miss them. You'll want to buy this blu-ray one day and watch it at home on that Vizio Cinema-Wide too. Roselyn Sanchez(married now I know) in is here for us fans, sizzle!!!
Act of Valor will likely earn high praise from combat veterans and their families, the way movies like "Fireproof" and "Seven Days in Utopia" resonate with Christians. Civilians, movie critics and certainly pacifists won't be nearly as impressed.
Yes, they are. They are not named in the film's credits, however. Yes. Christo is based on Viktor Bout, a notorious Russian billionaire currently awaiting trial in the US for black market arms dealing. Like Christo he enjoyed an immensely lavish lifestyle, ran his own fleet of smuggling planes, skilfully circumvented international law and ruthlessly sold to the highest bidder. He also inspired Nicholas Cage's film Lord of War. Abu Shabal is based on Shamil Basayev, Chechen terrorist leader and Jihadi who amongst other atrocities was responsible for the 2004 Beslan School massacre. Like Shabal he advocated the indiscriminate mass killing of civilians using explosive vests and utilised the wives of his dead fighters as suicide bombers, nicknaming them "Black Widows". He was killed in 2006 by an explosion during an arms deal, possibly assassinated by the Russian secret service. The Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG-7) is expelled from the launch tube by a primary charge and then carried towards the target by a rocket motor. However, the rocket motor doesn't initiate and the armour piercing warhead doesn't arm until it is some distance from the launcher so that the firer isn't killed by the backblast or a premature detonation. When the SEAL is struck by the warhead he is so close to the firer that the rocket motor hasn't kicked in yet and the warhead hasn't had time to arm so his body armour is able to save him. The SEALs not only rescued Morales but were able to recover the Blackberry phone belonging to Christo's henchman. This is a crucial plot point as the information they recover from it leads them to the arms transfer in Somalia and Christo's yacht in the Pacific. Terrorists worldwide from the IRA to the Viet Cong to Al-Quaeda have a reputation for obsessively writing their plans down, the SEAL's killing of Osama bin Laden was not nearly as important in the War on Terror as their recovery of his mobile phones, laptop computers etc which provided invaluable information on his organisation. Fast-rope: rappel from a helicopter using a rope

Task Force 160 / Nightstalkers: Army Special Aviation Regiment flying helicopters in support of SEALs and Delta Force Yes and no, we see it shot off and hanging by a strip of flesh in the final confrontation but later at the funeral and whilst writing the letter we see that he still has it. Presumably it must have been surgically re-attached. Several alterations were made for the international cut of the movie: some of the footage was either cut out or re-dubbed for international markets which mitigates the movie's message. Sometimes there is the exact same dialogue happening during an entirely different shot. Mostly the offscreen comments were changed but there are also five altered scenes resulting in a time difference of almost 1 minute between both versions. a5c7b9f00b
