In 1848, a New York bank wants to put a railroad across Mexico, so it buys up small banks around Santa Rita, Durango, and evicts farmers on the proposed rail line who owe money. The bank's henchman is the murderous Jackson. He runs afoul of two women, María, the tough but uneducated daughter of a farmer, and Sara, the European-educated daughter of the owner of one of these banks. To feed the now landless people and to seek revenge, María and Sara become bank robbers, veritable Robin Hoods. But Jackson and his hired guns are after them. What are the women's options?
In turn-of-the-century Mexico, two very different women become a bank-robbing duo in an effort to combat a ruthless enforcer terrorizing their town.
Maria and Sara a two very different girls with two very different backgrounds and social positions. At first, their relationship is only based on insults and bad remarks but soon, they will have to put their differences aside and fight for the same noble cause. Their town is invaded by an American bank owner who wants to build a railroad across Mexico so he disowns or kills any person who stands in his way. Thus, by joining forces and threatening him by robbing his own banks, they might just be able to do something for their people.
It is a western movie which desperately tries and succeeds in not being serious at any given time. It tries to tell a simplistic story in a funny way, making full use of its two famous and beautiful main female actors. Most of the time, it is enjoyable and even amusing but it keeps repeating a couple of clichés, making it even boring at times. Its finale is as simple and as expected as it gets but it is in tone with the rest of the film. Judging it by its purpose, it is a movie you can enjoy if you're looking for something casual and potentially laughable at, but nothing more.
I have seen this movie today and i must say it cheered my day.It was funny(many laugh out loud moments), the action was very very good for its genre (Western), a good plot to go by and it accomplishes to give you that old Western feeling.Penelope and Salma were magnificent and a perfect on-screen couple.For what it is (Action Western),it deserves an applause...I don't know why some people didn't like it, Considering it is PG-13, Genre Action Western Comedy (and not a drama or social movie that goes for an Oscar) it's top in its genre.It's got what it promises and even more.It is a very fun movie and unlike what another poster said , it does deserve the money to buy a ticket and go see it.
