But when the world needs him most, he vanishes. A hundred years later Katara and Sokka discover the new Avatar, an airbender named Aang. Together they must help Aang master the elements and save the world. When the hostile Fire Nation threatens to enslave the Water, Earth, and Air Nations, a reluctant and irresponsible boy must face his destiny as the Avatar, the Chosen One who can restore the world order. This new animated series centers on twelve-year-old Aang, who must forgo his selfish wandering to learn to master his latent powers over the four elements. Only then can he conquer the Firebenders, the evil nation that threatens the world. This is my FAVORITE TV show EVER. It is so unpredictable, the characters are funny and cool, the action sequences are awesome.
Aang is a great character. He is a very good moral for the kids, as is Katara and Sokka
I am very glad that Zuko joined the gang. That also sets a great moral for kids.
The actions sequences are my favorites. They look so realistic, its almost like they're real.
The end sequence between Aang and the fire Lord was awesome. I am so glad Aang decided not to kill the fire lord and took his powers away instead. That also is a good thing to know- ALL life is sacred. A definite 10/10I watched Avatar: The Last Airbender on TV a couple times, and I became to be very impressed by it. My brother and I rented every DVD and watched every episode of this masterpiece and we were blown away. There hasn't been, and there never will be another kid's show as brilliant and as epic as this one.
First, the animation. Not only is it beautiful, but it is also unique. It's almost a mixture of cartoon animation and anime, though it's not officially anime. Compared to the other kid shows on today, which are mostly lazy computer animated characters with big heads and no depth, Avatar has the best animation of them all. The landscapes are beautiful, breathtaking, and impossible to not take seriously.
Next, the plot. The story follows the same basic plot line throughout: Aang has to defeat the Firelord in order to bring balance to the world and unite the separate nations. The story is epic and powerful, with a lot of other important and interesting subplots and lessons we could all learn. Whoever wrote the stories for each episode were not only geniuses, but they knew what they were doing and they did an incredible job.
The Characters. I've never had so many favorite characters from one show before. They each have their own quirks, their own style, and they all can be loved and related to. Aang is the main character we can all relate to, having to accomplish a great task and unsure if he is able to do it. He really is someone to cheer for throughout the show. Katara is lovable, with her gentle spirit and her motherly tendencies. She is also someone to admire. When she is angry, she will stand and fight for her and her friends no matter what, and she never gives up. Sokka is the main comic relief of the show, and he never stops making me laugh. He is also has a good heart and an unyielding loyalty to his friends. Toph is sarcastic, powerful, and just plain awesome. Zuko at first is someone to hate, but not for long. It takes a few episodes to see what has made him so angry and confused about himself, and he turns into a character to really feel sorry for (example: the story of how he got his scar). He makes a turnaround and he becomes yet another lovable character. Now Iroh, Zuko's uncle has to be the best character of them all. He's calm, funny, and seemingly a bit lazy, but he really is a wise old man, and sort of a "good guy on the bad guy side". He's very fatherly towards Zuko and he's very caring and patient with him, even at his worst. Not only that, but in combat, Iroh kicks BUTT. He really does. My personal favorite part of the show what when he asks: "Do you know how I got the nickname 'The Dragon of the West'?" and he spews fire out of his mouth. PURE AWESOMENESS. All the characters are worth watching and admiring in this show.
The feeling this show leaves behind is powerful, and it really makes you want to know what happens in the next episode. What I loved about the very last episode was, not only was the conclusion of the show completely EPIC, but it also answered questions, brought closure to the characters' conflicts, and it left a feeling of great satisfaction at the end that everything had worked out perfectly.
This is the best show that Nickelodeon has ever produced. After this show ended and Spongebob began to decline, Nick has never been worth watching. What they need to do is look hard at this show, and try to work out some new shows that kick butt as well as this show did.In Ba Sing Se, Jet is captured by the Dai Li and is brain-washed to betray the Avatar. Jet overcomes the mind-control after being ordered to attack Aang and his friends and is killed by Long Feng in the "Lake Laogai" episode. Jet actually dies off-screen; his fate has been confirmed by the show's creators. Currently there is one Live Action Film The Last Airbender (2010), written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan . The film was produced at Paramount. The movie was titled "The Last Airbender" to avoid confusion with James Cameron's unrelated film "Avatar." The movie was released in theaters on July 2, 2010. Shooting took place on stages in Philadelphia, as well as locations including Greenland. Series creators Michael DiMartino & Bryan Konietzko served as executive producers. As to casting, the roles of Aang went to karate-trained Texan Noah Ringer; Sokka to Jackson Rathbone; Katara to Nicola Peltz and Dev Patel as Zuko.
Originally, the plan was for three live-action films. The showbiz magazine Variety announced on January 8th, 2007 that filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan had signed a 3-picture deal with Paramount's MTV Films and Nick Movies to write, direct and produce the live-action film adaptation of "Avatar: The Last Airbender."
Despite a lack of popularity with USA cinema-goers, The Last Airbender film continued to be tremendously financially successful around the world and was therefore quite popular. IMDB reports that as of the 23rd of September 2010, the worldwide gross figures for the film was $319,731,881. From a financial standpoint, this figure suggests that all of the costs of making the film were recouped plus an additional 100% profit. The gross in USA cinemas up until the 19th of September 2010 (IMDB) was $131,564,731, meaning that more than 50% of the gross was from outside USA. In sum, the first film was had average success in USA and big success around the world.
In April 2013, rumours were building quickly that M. Night Shyamalan is preparing for the the sequel: The Last Airbender: Book 2 Earth. As of September 2017 there are no information regarding any sequel. No. 70 years after the events of Avatar: The Last Airbender, the spin-off series titled The Legend of Korra reveals that there is at least one new airbender, Tenzin, the son of Aang and Katara. Tenzin is the airbending teacher to Korra, the new Avatar. His 3 children, Aang's grandchildren, are also Airbenders. No, but there will be a follow-up comic-book series and a sequel set decades after the original show. The creators confirmed that at San Diego Comic Con in July, 2007. Other stories will be told in the Avatar world and there is the live-action movie, but the animated series ends with Book 3: Fire. The further adventures of Aang and his friends will be continued in an ongoing comic-book series to be published by Dark Horse Comics.
