To "get rid of them" you can either use Page Setup in Word to specify something such as US Letter (Borderless) or make the specification in the Print dialog. Options may vary depending on OS X version as well as printer model.
Try removing the margins from your document. Currently it says 'Normal Margins' in your print settings. Try setting the value to custom and then set zero margins. If that doesn't work you can create a new paper type called 'Borderless' with custom size and margin, so that Word does not try to impose A4
I needed to generate PDF files for our school from Word documents created on Office XP. "No problem," I thought, "just open it in Word X and Print to PDF." Sure enough, that worked fine, except I failed to notice that the original files went right to the edge of the paper, and my PDFs clipped the edges.

The only way I managed to do this is to click somewhere in first section and then: Cmd+P. Page Setup. Select Paper Size: PDF (borderless) - the one you created as Go for Joy described.
For instance, I'll have a nice beautiful ebook cover that will appear to be edge-to-edge in Word, but when I save to PDF, I get a super ugly white border around the but I tried using Adobe Acrobat with the Full bleed Word document and I still get the white box in each page in the PDF just like I would when printing it at home.
up vote 0 down vote. Orif you go to File > Save as > PDF then before you click Export be sure to select "Best for Printing" under File Format. The formatting changes if you select "Best for electronic distribution" (which is the default).
