Can Mills make it against the well-prepared kidnappers?Liam Neeson is not the first actor who springs to mind when you think of movie action heroes. For a start he's 56 years old but why should that get in the way , look at Harrison Ford . The difference is Bryan Mills is no Indiana Jones! He's one guy you don't p**s off and for very good reason!
"Taken" is "24" meets "The Bourne Identity". It stars Liam Neeson as Bryan Mills, a retired American spy whose daughter Kim (Maggie Grace from "Lost") is kidnapped in Paris while he's on the phone to her from Los Angeles. The kidnappers come on the line and Mills tries to warn them what they're letting themselves in for:
"I don't know who you are. If you're looking for ransom, I don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills acquired over a very long career in the shadows, skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go now, that will be the end of it. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you. And I will kill you."
But do they listen? Do they merde!
Now ," Taken " really is a film that you have to turn of the logic side of your brain before you go into the Cinema. If you do that then your in for one hell of ride . It's action all the way and quite brutal action at times too. Neeson manages to kicks the butts of men half his age but somehow it works. He comes away from situations without a scratch while his enemies suffer thanks to his US military training.
If i had to criticise this film for anything it's not for the fact that it's ridiculously far fetched or the script is a little stiff its because of the way Neeson's Character reacts when his daughter say shes going on holiday to Europe to watch U2 . You would think that she just told her dad she was of to Beirut to join Hezbollah! Your much more likely to get into trouble in the big Cities of the US than in places like Paris or London. Personally i would have been more concerned that my daughter was listening to crap like U2!
But who am i to criticise as predictably daddy is proved right when she is whisked off by some nasty dark skinned Europeans before she's even unpacked!.
How have i survived all this time living and working in London!
That criticism aside i really enjoyed Taken. It's pure adrenaline packed entertainment and maybe we do have a new competitor to rival the three B's - Bond , Bourne & Bauer ?
I wouldn't say no to another portion of Bryan Mills and his no nonsense approach to life.

8 out of 10Taken is a very good action movie but not one to be taken so seriously. This is all for the fun and to see Liam Neeson kick some serious butt. I went into this film not expecting anything too spectacular. I was blown away within the first five minutes of the film.
This movie reminds me of James Bond and Jason Bourne. But here the action guy is much older and his mission is to go to Paris to find his kidnapped daughter within a few days before she succumbs to prostitution.
The acting is very good. The only well known actor here is Liam Neeson and he was perfect. The supporting cast led by Maggie Grace is not that bad either.
Overall, this is the perfect action movie. I had a fun time watching this. I can't wait to see the second one. I rate this film 10/10.Taken shows Mills as a one-man rescue squad, a master of every skill, a laser-eyed, sharpshooting, pursuit-driving, pocket-picking, impersonating, knife-fighting, torturing, karate-fighting killing machine who can cleverly turn over a petrol tank with one pass in his car and strategically ignite it with another.Retired CIA operative Bryan Mills (Liam Neeson) reluctantly allows his 17-year-old daughter Kim (Maggie Grace) to fly to Paris with her girlfriend Amanda (Katie Cassidy). Not more than a few hours after landing in Paris, Kim and Amanda are kidnapped by Albanian sex-traders. Bryan immediately hops on a flight to Paris in order to track down his daughter, vowing to stop at nothing to get her back. Taken is an original script by French film-maker Luc Besson and American screenwriter Robert Mark Kamen. Two sequels followed: Taken 2 (2012) (2012) and Taken 3 (2014) (2015). When Marko (Arben Bajraktaraj) is being interrogated by Bryan, he says that Kim was a virgin and that they don't deal with virgins, so they sold her to a man named Patrice Saint-Clair because virgins fetch a very high price. St. Clair's client turns out to be a sheik (Nabil Massad) who has a penchant for deflowering young girls. Bryan reaches the quay just as the boat carrying his daughter leaves the dock. He steals a car and drives along the quay until he passes the boat, stops his car on a bridge, and jumps on deck as the boat passes under it. After fighting his way past almost a dozen guards and getting himself shot in the leg, he makes his way to a bedroom suite where he finds a fat sheik holding a knife to Kim's neck. The sheik starts to negotiate, but Bryan shoots him between the eyes. Kim starts to cry and rushes into her father's arms. In the next scene, Bryan and Kim are arriving at the Los Angeles Airport. They are greeted by a tearful Lenore (Famke Janssen) and her rich husband Stuart (Xander Berkeley). Lenore hugs Bryan in thanks, and Stuart offers him a ride with them, but Bryan decides to take a cab. In the final scene, Bryan takes Kim on a surprise visit to the house of pop singer Sheerah (Holly Valance), who invites Kim inside so that she can hear Kim sing and "see what [she] got." By the time anyone would have spoken up, if ever, Bryan was likely on his private jet winging his way back to Los Angeles. Once back in the States, the U.S. government isn't about to hand over one of their CIA operatives.Taken is most often compared to Commando (1985) (1985), in which a retired army commando will stop at nothing to find his kidnapped daughter, and to Man on Fire (2004) (2004), in which the ex-CIA operative bodyguard of a young girl searches relentlessly for her when she is kidnapped. If you're into South Korean cinema, you could check out Ajeossi (2010) (The Man from Nowhere) (2010), which is very similar to Taken in many aspects. There are three versions. The first is the international cut, released as an "Extended Cut" (unrated) on home media in the US, and as an "Extended Harder Cut" (with an "18" classification) on home media in the UK. The second is the UK cut, which is nearly identical to the international cut, with the sole exception of the torture scene (the clamps are attached to the chair in the UK cut; in the international cut, they're attached to spikes which are stabbed into the man's legs), which was cut to secure a "15" classification. This cut was shown in theaters in the UK. Finally, the third version is the US cut, edited by 2 or 3 minutes to receive a PG-13 rating in the US. This cut was shown in theaters in the US. There are three DVD releases in Region 1—(1) the Single-Disc Rental Exclusive, (2) the Single-Disc Extended Cut, and (3) the Two-Disc Digital Copy—and the Blu-ray release in Region A.
