Two East Asian surfing brothers in California discover they are the long-lost princes from a China Sea Island. Part of their inheritance is magically induced prowess in hand-to-hand combat. Using their new powers they act to dethrone the island's current dictator, a mad despot.
Brothers Johnny, an adolescent surf talent, and Adam, a preadolescent video-game addict, grow up care-free in California as adopted sons of Marines veteran Mac, inseparable friends of wacky local lout Iggy. Colonel Chi's military reign of terror culminates in their tiny birth-land, island state Patu San, off the Viet Nam coast. Former royal guards officer Zatch comes to summon the brothers to return and restore the pacific monarchy, because they are the sons of the murdered king, whom Mac took in exile for safety. They are joined on the adventurous journey by a bored Californian police detective whose attention was drawn by the ninja team that failed, thanks to Zatch, to murder the brothers in Mac's home.
It may seem that im repeating most of the comments but truth deserves repetition
I rented surf ninjas as a kid and enjoyed it so much i never got tired of it. My parents had to stop my addiction to it after the fifty-something viewing. It was a fun action movie - ninjas, video games, action, pretty girls and the classic storyline of good vs world domination cyborg old bad guy. It brought the fundamentals of storytelling in a fun, modernized movie to an audience that wasn't worried about the acting nor the special effects. We just wanted to see ninjas kick butt. It's a fun movie for kids but after puberty its crap. But i still don't care - it brings back fond memories. Id still watch it just for the nostalgia. By all means give this movie a shot and, if desired, laugh at its crap.
I've been watching this movie for some 10 odd years now, and I love it more than ever. I can never express enough how amazing this film is in all it's hilarious one(or two, or three, or...)-liners, rockin' soundtrack, and entertaining as hell characters, those are expressions I can only keep in my heart. *NOW SOME SPOILERS* Ernie Reyes Sr. is the baddest(good, not bad) as Johnny and Adam's vigilante-protector, Uncle Zatch. Rob Schneider's character Iggy(the friend of Johnny and nuisance to everyone else) has quite the fan base among my buddies and I. Iggy's quite possibly one of the most quotable characters in modern cinema history..... Ernie Reyes Jr. plays a role almost identical to his character Keno in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret Of The Ooze(another movie, part of an epic saga)as Johnny, which of course is fun to see. Nicolas Cowan plays Johnny's kid brother Adam, who at one point in the movie backs a jeep into a group of menacing ninjas, causing his bewildered brother to say "Adam, you're driving!", to which Adam casually states "Yeah, ain't it b****in'?" How cool is that? Tone Loc(Lt. Spence) and Leslie Nielson(Colonel Chi) also play fun characters. Ah hell, everyone from the holy man Baba Ram, to the boys' adoptive father Mac, to the long-time enemy of Mac that gets thrown across a room by a deadly pair of chop sticks wielded by Zatch, to the gong banger("Pa-tu-san!"), to Johnny's girl Ro-May, to Ro-May's father Gum-Bey("As in Po-key's friend?"), to the guy that gets his @$$ knocked down a looonnngggg flight of steps more than a couple times, are testimonies of great script writing.
See Surf Ninjas, it just may become as infamous to everyone who reads your "Favorite Movies" lists as it has become to those who read mine. Kwansu dudes! 10-out of-10
