20 Jan 2016 Men with a family history of prostate cancer should have testing from 40/45 years of age but routine digital rectal examination is not recommended for asymptomatic men. The guidelines also cover active surveillance, watchful waiting and biopsy.
For the reasons above, men considering being tested for prostate cancer should do so with information on both the benefits and harms of testing and treatment. It replaces the Prostate Cancer Screening in Australia: Position Statement 2010.
