Terraria is one the best things to ever happen to 8-bit, side-scrolling, adventure/RPG/crafting games. That’s a genre, right? If it had been around when I was 10, I would have never stopped playing. Terraria is a well put together amalgam of the best aspects of some great games like Super Metroid, Minecraft, and even classic Final Fantasy games (in a non-turn-based type of way.) And yet, it feels like a brand new experience. As I explored the enormous map from the two oceans to the floating islands to the depths of the dungeons, jungles, and even hell, I became addicted. Building a town brought a merchant, an arms dealer, and other characters to buy and sell things. When I finally figured out how to create a multiplayer server, it added immense fun to have others explore the world with me. There are great bosses to beat, if you want, but only after you collect and craft awesome items out of things like meteorites. You can do just about anything you’d like in Terraria (like creating a light saber).
